REINFORCING MORAL AND CIVIC EDUCATION IN NURSURY AND PRIMARY SCHOOLS TO FIGHT CORRUPTION.

Head teachers of Nursery and Primary Schools in Meme have been exhorted to begin teaching the pupils moral and civic education, in order to inculcate the fear of God in them, and respect for State institutions. The Senior Divisional Officer for Meme, David Koulbout Aman made this speech on the occasion of the launching of the 2011/2012 Basic Education School year in Meme Division. At the Conference Hall of Government Bilingual Teachers Training College (GBTTC) Kumba. Holding under the theme “The Fight against Corruption and Reinforcement of Moral and Civic Education within the school Milieu. The pivotal role of Mayors in the running of Public Primary and Nursery schools, the meeting brought together teachers of Nursery and Primary schools from all the five Sub-Divisions in Meme.

The S.D.O remarked that Nursery and Primary education is the foundation for everybody. Adding that it is against that backdrop that the Government of Cameroon created the Ministry of Basic Education so that moral and civic education should be implanted in them. While they are still tender and fragile in minds saying if Cameroonians receive moral and civic education in nursery and primary schools, corruption, embezzlement of state funds would not be current as it is the case.

Addressing the Head teachers and other education stakeholders, the Divisional Delegate of Basic Education for Meme Nsoh Nicholas Nkwong said the launching of the school year is an annual ritual set aside by the Minister of Basic Education to take stock of the previous years activities and to prepare for the next academic year. He also said the launching of the 2011/2012 academic year in Meme is in time with the Ministers Directives.  In closing, the Delegate exhorted the Head Teachers to ensure that they pass across what they have learnt during the launch to other teachers.  Adding that the knowledge is never treasured or useful until put into use.
