Muslims resident in Kumba in the South West Region have been exhorted to actively participate in politics in order to run for local elections and to use their offices to educate fellow Muslims. The Imam of the Sunni Mosque Mbanya street in Kumba 2 sub-division , Nkamo Aboubakar made this resounding call in a chat with this reporter at the grounds of the mosque on Tuesday 8th November 2011.

The Imam speaking to this reporter barely two days after the celebration of the feast of the Ram said the feast is the most important and  it is one of the five pillars of Islam. The Imam further pointed out that Muslims have been in the back water of politics and went on to appeal to his fellow Muslims to actively participate in local politics, run for local elections and to use their offices to educate other fellow Muslims and to better their statues.

He said the partition of Kumba into three sub-divisions, Kumba 1, Kumba 2 and Kumba 3 conjures up the need for Muslims to engage themselves in local elections like the municipals in order to reach the imbalance against them. This reporter observes that over 90% of the Muslims in kumba reside in Kumba 2. The Imam did not indicate the political party or parties he would prefer his faithfuls  to engage in.

Nkamo Aboubakar has called on Muslim faithfuls to forgive and reconcile with any person who has wronged them in the past and should be forward ever and backward never. The Imam revelead that Biya’s anniversary provided him the rare opportunity to preach his sermon on peace and reconciliation, adding peace is an elusive and rare commodity in the world especially in Africa.
